Author speaks at Belmont Hills Elementary School

Author Lauren Tarshis, creator of the "I Survived" series, kept the students at Belmont Hills Elementary School engaged with her discussion of her well-loved books of historical fiction. Read by thousands of children with great enthusiasm, Tarshis's books have been translated into several languages, and focus on major historical events including the sinking of the Titanic, the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the battle of Gettysburg, and natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the San Francisco earthquake and her recent book about the Children's Blizzard of 1888.

Tarshis shared her own background with the audience, and described her journey as a young child who had difficulty reading books, to an accomplished author and editor.
