April 9th Update from Superintendent Copeland

Dear LMSD Families,

Today, Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf, in consultation with Education Secretary Pedro Rivera and Health Secretary Rachel Levine, announced that all Pennsylvania schools will remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We will, therefore, continue to utilize our Flexible Instruction plan for remote learning through the remainder of the year, beginning on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Now that we know that the duration of the closure will last through the end of the school year, we will be able to make decisions regarding plans for events, such as proms and graduations. Principals will be reaching out to students and families with this information as soon as plans are finalized.

We are also considering how this extended closure will affect our summer learning programs, including Summer School, ESY and SPIES. Once we receive additional guidance from the Department of Education, we will be able to share with you how and whether we will be able to provide these programs.

Your patience and support are greatly appreciated as we continue to work together through this unprecedented situation. We all look forward to the time when we can return to our schools safely.

Robert Copeland
