8th Grade "Sharks" learn about entrepreneurship

Students in Ms. Morris's eighth grade algebra class at Welsh Valley Middle School are taking part in the fourth annual "Shark Tank" project. The students innovate business ideas, create plans and projections, and finally present their ideas before a panel of judges ("Sharks").

Dr. Peggy Lane, who served as "Shark" last year, returned to Welsh Valley to speak to students about how to value their businesses. Using relatable and concrete examples, Dr. Lane was an engaging presenter. After her presentation for a large group of students, she stayed to work with small groups in breakout sessions, helping the students further develop their business plans.

Dr. Lane is an accounting professor at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. She also runs the Executive MBA Program at Wharton, and is a parent to Harriton High School freshman, who is an alumnus of Welsh Valley.
