8th Grade Career Fair returns to Bala Cynwyd
8th Grade Career Fair returns to Bala Cynwyd

Bala Cynwyd Middle School recently hosted the 8th Grade Career Fair – an annual event providing students the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of industries and professions from parent and community member volunteers.

Students prepare for Career Day by answering a series of questions on a "Career Key," which helps them identify their interests and particular skills before matching them to 16 possible career cluster categories, including medicine and health sciences; education; business; management and administration; arts and communications; government and public service; architecture and construction; and more. On the day of the event, students choose four adults from a list of the visiting professionals who provide short presentations on their specific career, education and certification requirements. They also discuss a typical day at work before answering any questions the students have.

The speakers on-hand at this year's Career Fair represented a range of professions and fields, including: architecture, accounting, science, engineering, education, graphic design, management, law enforcement, medicine, law, social work, investment banking, the arts and more.

The keynote speaker at this year's event was Karen Hepp, who currently serves as co-anchor of Good Day Philadelphia. Prior to joining FOX 29, Hepp worked at WNYW-TV in New York City anchoring Good Day Wakeup. She previously worked for WNBC in New York, WCAU in Philadelphia and WVIT in Connecticut.
