The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. This newly identified type of coronavirus has caused widespread illness in China. Additional cases have been confirmed in other countries in people who have traveled to affected areas of China or people who have had contact with travelers to affected areas. It is likely that additional cases will be confirmed internationally. The CDC website is updated frequently with information about the coronavirus as well as confirmed cases in the U.S.
Procedures are in place in our schools for reports of reportable communicable illness such as the 2019 Novel Coronavirus. The Pa. Department of Health issues guidance and direction to health
care providers and schools when necessary. Guidance has been provided to health care providers in the state for suspected cases of this disease. Lower Merion School District complies with the direction of health agencies such as the Office of Public Health of Montgomery County and the Pa. Department of Health in matters of communicable illness. The CDC provides assistance to local and state health departments when needed. If there were a confirmed case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus in our community, the Office of Public Health will notify us and provide guidance and information for distribution to families.
