Reminders from Dr. Mumin for Cold and Flu Season

Dear LMSD Families,

Some families in our community have reported instances of flu and other respiratory illnesses in recent weeks. In light of these reports, LMSD consulted with the Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH). They advised that a high incidence of flu and other respiratory illnesses is often common at this time of year.

MCOPH did not recommend any changes to current mitigation practices at school; however, they did recommend that we remind you of what everyone can do to limit the spread of illness, including:

  • Frequent hand-washing
  • Covering coughs or sneezes, using the crook of your elbow
  • Staying home and calling your healthcare provider if you have symptoms
  • Wearing a mask, if you choose
  • Getting all of the recommended vaccinations and boosters

If your child is going to be absent, please remember to use the LMSD Safe Arrival system to report the absence and to send in a note upon their return. For a list of Montgomery County flu vaccine clinics, click here. For a list of COVID-19 vaccination/booster clinics, click here.

We will continue to monitor attendance and seek advice from MCOPH. Thank you for your ongoing efforts to keep our students, staff and community healthy.

Sincerely,

Khalid N. Mumin, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
