Sandra Niles Hoopes, who has coached girls' track and field at Lower Merion High School for more than 4 decades, was named the female honorary high school meet referee at this year's Penn Relays.
Coach Jay Jones from the North Penn School District was the male honoree. Each received a special yellow cap and commemorative baton.
According to the Penn Relays website, "The Penn Relays committee selects these distinguished coaches for their outstanding mentorship and team successes."
Hoopes said, "This was one of the most exciting events of my track and field coaching career. It was truly an honor to be selected."
In addition to this honor for the coach, it was a stellar season for the school's track and field teams, including podium finishes at States.
