Harriton & Lower Merion Science Olympiads Finish Season Among Nation's Best

Several weeks ago, Harriton and Lower Merion high schools finished in first and second place, respectively, at the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad Championships, where the District duo claimed both of the state’s bids to Nationals! After several years of virtual tournaments due to covid-related concerns, this year’s event marked a much-welcomed return to the in-person, national competition, which was held at Wichita State University, and LMSD’s remarkable representatives did not disappoint.

The Harriton squad placed fifth overall while the Aces finished not far behind in fourteenth. For Harriton, this is fifth-straight, in-person tournament where they recorded a top-five finish – a rare distinction achieved by only one other team in the country, Troy High School out of California. The outstanding results delivered by District students were highlighted by Harriton’s Océane Box and Jayne Chen, who won the national gold in the Forestry event.

Congratulations to all of the Harriton and Lower Merion students and coaches on another extraordinary season!
