Harriton Celebrates 25 Years of International Baccalaureate Excellence

Harriton High School recently celebrated a special milestone: the 25th anniversary of its International Baccalaureate (IB) Program!

For the past quarter-century, Harriton’s IB program has brought together students, families and educators in a shared commitment to academic excellence, global understanding and lifelong learning. The anniversary celebration offered an opportunity for current and former members of the IB community to reconnect, reflect on the program’s lasting impact and honor the many people who have helped shape its success over the years.

The event also recognized longtime IB Coordinator Tom O’Brien, who is retiring after leading the program with dedication and heart since its inception. Affectionately known to many as “TOB,” O’Brien has played a central role in building and sustaining Harriton’s IB program, supporting generations of students and educators throughout its 25-year history.

As part of the celebration, current and former IB students and teachers were invited to contribute to a special IB Roll Call slideshow and commemorative yearbook featuring photos, memories and messages from across the years. The completed yearbook will be presented to O’Brien as a tribute to his leadership and the community he helped foster.

In another meaningful tribute, the family of a former LMSD School Board member generously offered to rename an existing IB Scholarship in O’Brien’s honor. The scholarship, administered through the Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund (LMTSF), supports graduates as they continue their educational journeys beyond high school.

The anniversary celebration served as both a look back at 25 years of achievement and a tribute to the people, relationships and shared values that have made Harriton’s IB program so meaningful to so many students and families.
