STATE CHAMPS! LM Girls Tennis Takes PA Crown

The Lower Merion High School girls tennis team clinched the PIAA 3A state championship at the Hershey Racquet Club on October 26, 2024, with a convincing 3-0 win over Council Rock South. Finishing the season with a perfect 23-0 record, the Aces also captured both the District One and Central League titles on their way to the state crown.

Lower Merion secured the Pennsylvania title with three straight-set wins against Council Rock South, who entered the tournament as defending state champs. Key victories in the finals came from ninth-grader Jasmine Taylor at first singles (7-5, 6-2), sophomore Shaila Anolik at third singles (6-3, 6-2) and the first-doubles team of ninth-grader Claire Minerva and sophomore Camille Cohen (6-3, 6-3).

The state title bodes well for the future of the Aces’ girls tennis program, as six of the seven players in the lineup are in ninth or tenth grade. The team’s exceptional season was also guided by seniors Ella Hoffman, Jojo Cini, Katie Havces and Sydney Piskai, whose leadership and dedication played a pivotal role in reestablishing a winning culture for the program.
