Lower Merion High School’s Black Student Union (BSU) recently hosted a special Black History Month program – the second annual Shades of Black event – as students, staff, family and friends gathered in the auditorium and Aces’ Atrium to participate in this celebratory, entertaining and educational evening.
One portion of the program was performative as several groups and entertainers took centerstage throughout the night, including the Lower Merion Drill Team, Dat Dance Studio and the Zion Baptist Church of Ardmore Choir, among others.
Just outside the auditorium in the Aces’ Atrium were a collection of activities, displays and tables for guests to peruse and enjoy during the event. The walls were adorned with colorful and captivating Black History Month posters - a collaborative project spearheaded by the BSU and Student Council - to recognize and celebrate the contributions of influential African Americans and the integral role they played in shaping our nation’s history.
There were also plenty of games to be played and a delicious spread of food for guests to enjoy. The second annual Shades of Black was a resounding success.
