Penn Valley LEGO League Builds STEM Skills with LMHS Robotics

Fourth-grade students on Penn Valley Elementary School’s FIRST LEGO League team recently had the opportunity to learn from some of the District’s talented student engineers when the Panthers welcomed members of Lower Merion High School’s Dawgma robotics program for a special visit.

FIRST LEGO League is an international robotics program that introduces students to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through hands-on learning and teamwork. Working in teams, students design, build and program LEGO-based robots to complete missions on a themed competition field while also researching real-world problems and presenting innovative solutions to a panel of judges.

It was an electrifying experience for the fourth-graders, who were able to learn from and work alongside the award-winning Dawgma robotics team. The Penn Valley students showed their robots to the high school team—and vice versa—while asking STEM-related questions, receiving feedback on their designs and competition strategies, and gaining inspiration for what their own futures in STEM might look like.

A big thank-you to Dawgma for sharing your time, knowledge and passion for robotics with Penn Valley’s LEGO League team!
