Dear LMSD Community,
As we approach the solemn anniversary of the terror attacks that occurred on October 7, 2023, learn of the most recent attacks, and acknowledge the start of the Jewish High Holy Days, we recognize this is a time of deep reflection and pain for many in our community. The loss of innocent lives and the ongoing conflict continue to resonate with many.
We understand these events may bring up a range of complex emotions for members of our diverse community. As always, it is important that we support one another by leading with empathy, compassion, and understanding. Our schools remain committed to fostering a safe, inclusive environment where all students and families feel seen and supported. As we remember the lives lost and those impacted, we reaffirm our dedication to standing against hate, promoting understanding and encouraging respectful conversations.
Our staff and members of our Student Services team will be especially mindful in offering additional support to any students who may be struggling at this time. Students are encouraged to reach out to their counselors or another trusted adult at school if they need help.
My sincere hope is that together, we can navigate this moment with care for our students. I hope those celebrating Rosh Hashanah are able to enjoy a peaceful holiday and I thank all in our school community for your continued commitment to our shared values.
Sincerely,
Megan E. Shafer
Acting Superintendent
