Hundreds of fourth- and fifth-grade students from across the area recently gathered at Lower Merion High School to take part in the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit’s (MCIU) Reading Olympics!
The Reading Olympics is an annual academic competition in which students read a pre-selected list of books and then compete in teams to answer questions based on those titles. The program is designed to promote critical thinking and teamwork while expanding students’ vocabulary, literacy skills and exposure to a variety of genres. The team with the most correct answers and highest point total is declared the winner.
Each school’s team was guided by a dedicated teacher-coach who worked with students throughout the year, helping them review characters, themes, plots, settings, and more to ensure they were well-prepared for competition day. Representing LMSD at this year’s event were teams from Belmont Hills, Cynwyd, Gladwyne, Merion, Penn Valley and Penn Wynne — as well fifth-grade teams from Black Rock and Welsh Valley.
Congratulations to all of this year’s participating students on a fantastic showing!
