The Lower Merion High School boys cross country team recently competed in the New Balance / Running Lane National Cross Country Championship in Huntsville, Alabama, gaining valuable experience while representing the Aces on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

While the postseason competition proved to be an incredible opportunity for all team members who participated, the meet was highlighted by an extraordinary individual performance from senior Nick Mazzeo, who captured first place overall, earning the title of National Champion and All-American honors. With this victory, Nick made history as the only athlete in Lower Merion High School, Central League and District 1 history to achieve National Champion status in cross country.

Nick’s accomplishment also places him among an elite group statewide. He is just the second boys cross country runner in Pennsylvania history to win a national title, following Drew Griffith (2023), and the third Pennsylvania student-athlete overall to earn this distinction, alongside Tessa Barrett, who won the national championship for girls in 2013.

Joining Nick at Nationals were teammates Max Pasqualino, Danny Mezey-McMahon, Owen Davis, Flynn Fitzgerald, Alex Mazzeo, Pierce Wilson, and Matt McLaughlin, each contributing to a memorable national-level experience.

The Lower Merion High School community congratulates Nick and the entire boys cross country team on an exceptional season and a remarkable showing at the national level.
