LM Squash Competes at 2024 U.S. Middle School Championships

Lower Merion School District's boys' and girls' middle school squash teams recently finished tenth and 25th, respectively, at the 2024 U.S. Middle School Squash Championships, which were held February 2-4 at the Arlen Specter U.S. Squash Center in Philadelphia.

The LM girls' contingent entered the championships seeded seventh out of 29 teams. After a tough opening loss to Germantown Friends School (3-2), the team rebounded with victories over local rivals Agnes Irwin (3-2) and SCH (4-1) before falling to Greenwich Middle School (4-1) in the consolation finals.

The LM Boys came in to the tournament seeded 29th out of 49 teams. They followed a similar path as the girls, dropping their opening match to Indian Mountain School (0-5) before beating two Connecticut squads in Greens Farms Academy (3-2) and Greenwich Middle School (4-1, before losing in the consolation finals to the Haverford School’s C Team (4-1).

The girls' squad was anchored by Linden Muhly (BC 8th), Nina Abdullah (BR 8th), Annie Nagy (BC 7th), Stella Danowski (BC 8th), Julia Kirchner (BR 8th) and Gina Stoker (Coach).

The LM boys' squad was led by Parker Gregg (BC 8th), Shaylan Hauser (BC 5th), Theo Hoffman (BC 7th), Jonah Greenstein (BC 6th), Elliot Furnas (BC 8th), Sebastian Soosar (BC 7th), Sean Fu (BC 5th) and Lucas Rousselett (Coach).

Of note, the number-two ranked player on the girls' side, Josephine Davis (BC 8th), who last year went undefeated at nationals, and boys top-three player Davis Gregg (BC 6th), were both sidelined before the championships with ankle injuries.

Next up for the LMSD squash squad, the boys' and girls' high school representatives will compete in the 2024 U.S. High School Squash Championships, which will be held February 23-25 at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center. End-of-season banquets are also planned for the middle and high school teams on Sunday, February 25 and Sunday, Mach 10th, respectively, at The Cynwyd Club.
