On April 4, the Harriton High School Concert Choir delivered an outstanding debut at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City. Accompanied by select instrumentalists, the Rams vocalists were honored as a Featured Ensemble during the Choirs of America Harmonic Convergence Concert.
Out of just nine choirs invited from across the country, Harriton stood out as the only choral ensemble selected to perform a 30-minute featured set—opening for esteemed conductor Dr. André Thomas and composer-in-residence Dr. Brandon Boyd. They shared the stage with the Vivace and Armonioso Festival Choirs, which collectively featured more than 400 student singers.
Harriton’s selection followed a highly competitive video audition process, reviewed by the Choirs of America Executive Team and a distinguished panel of composers, conductors and choral educators.
In addition to their featured performance, the Harriton Concert Choir and Orchestra gave a special community concert on April 3 at the historic Church of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan. During the event, the Rams organized a collection to benefit the Holy Trinity Neighborhood Center, which provides meals, support and essential services to individuals and families in need on the Upper East Side.
Congratulations to Harriton Choral Director Jason Bizich, Instrumental Music Directors James Joseph and Josh Cooperstein, and all of the students on your exceptional performances!
A couple special shoutouts to:
- Welsh Valley Middle School music teacher Mary Callaghan for making the trip to New York and giving a pep talk to the students before their debut!
- Bala Cynwyd and Welsh Valley instrumental music teacher Marybeth McCarrick for her dedicated work coaching and collaborating with Harriton's string musicians in preparation for their Carnegie Hall performance!
Hear the Harriton Concert Choir perform a beautiful rendition of “Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal,” arranged by Alice Parker—a piece they showcased during their Carnegie Hall performance—right here!
