Belmont Hills Elementary School recently hosted a special Whole School Morning Meeting featuring a vibrant and engaging presentation about the Lunar New Year, which officially begins on Wednesday, January 29, 2025! The Bulldogs had the unique opportunity to learn about the rich traditions and symbols of this meaningful holiday, presented by a wonderful group of students and staff dressed in exquisite traditional clothing.
Lunar New Year is a joyous celebration observed by millions of people worldwide, marking the start of the new year based on the lunar calendar. It is celebrated across several Asian cultures, each with its own unique customs. Festivities often last for several days and include cherished traditions such as family reunions, enjoying special foods, exchanging red envelopes filled with money for good luck, dazzling firework displays and captivating cultural performances. As a time of renewal, gratitude and reflection, Lunar New Year symbolizes a fresh start and the welcoming of prosperity and good fortune for the year ahead.
2025 marks the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, a sign that represents wisdom, transformation and renewal. This makes it an ideal time for reflection and growth as we embrace the opportunities that the new year brings.
Belmont Hills is proud to celebrate cultural traditions like Lunar New Year, which enrich the community, build belonging and help us learn more about the world around us. Events like this further unite the Bulldogs' family, fostering understanding, respect and appreciation for the diverse backgrounds that make Belmont Hills such a special place!
Shoutout to the Bulldogs' AWESOME art teacher, Ms. Talarigo, for her leadership in bringing this meaningful event to life and for teaching us about the Lunar New Year!
