Students in Lower Merion School District's English Language Development program and their families enjoyed a fun night of carnival games and camaraderie at the annual ELD Family Night, held March 6, 2025, at Lower Merion High School.
The Kobe Bryant Gymnasium was transformed into a carnival midway, where children enjoyed games including a bean bag toss, football throwing, hula hoop contests, giant balloons and more. Older ELD students joined ELD staff members in running the games and ensuring a good time was had by all ages.
In the cafeteria, guests enjoyed traditional carnival treats, including soft pretzels, lollipops and cotton candy, and had the opportunity to visit resource tables set up by many community service organizations, including food banks, and LMSD departments, including Nutritional Services and Counseling.
Volunteer interpreters -- in bright yellow shirts with buttons showing the languages they speak -- helped families connect with the resources and with one another, using their skills in English as well as Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Russian and Italian.
The ELD Family Night is just one way that LMSD works to build a sense of belonging for students and families, and aligns with the LMSD Strategic Plan pathway of "Spirit of Community." You can see lots of fun photos in the slide show below. #LMSDBuildingBelonging
