Dr. Ranelli to Recommend Dr. Robert Schwartz to Become Math Supervisor

Dear LMSD Community,

I’m pleased to share that at the next meeting of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors, I will be recommending Dr. Robert Schwartz as LMSD’s next supervisor of curriculum and instruction for K-12 mathematics.

Dr. Schwartz is an alumnus of Lower Merion High School who has extensive leadership experience in a similar role in the Upper Darby School District. He spent 12 years as an elementary classroom teacher.

In Upper Darby, Dr. Schwartz has lead district-wide efforts to elevate teaching and learning in mathematics through targeted professional development. He has conducted formal observations to ensure instruction is both data-driven and student-centered, promoting creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. He regularly engages families and the broader community through workshops and School Board presentations that advocate for equity in mathematics education and challenge persistent misconceptions.

Dr. Schwartz received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Syracuse University; his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from West Chester University; his principal certification from Temple University; and his doctorate in educational leadership, administration and policy from Fordham University.

It has been a pleasure getting to know Dr. Schwartz through the hiring process and I look forward to bringing him aboard in our District as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Frank Ranelli
Superintendent
