District Celebrates Digital Citizenship Week

Lower Merion School District recently wrapped up its annual Digital Citizenship Week programming, which is designed to educate and empower students to navigate the digital world responsibly and safely. Developing strong digital citizenship skills is essential in a world where technology and the internet play such central roles in students’ daily lives.

Throughout the week, students of all ages learned the importance of maintaining a healthy, balanced and positive approach to media and technology use.

For example, elementary students explored questions like:

  • How can we be safe, responsible and respectful online?
  • How can I manage device distractions and stay focused?
  • How can I safely navigate online spaces?
  • How can I show kindness online?

In middle schools, students engaged in lessons on important topics like artificial intelligence, online influence and protecting their privacy, while at Harriton and Lower Merion, discussions focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on upcoming elections, digital footprints and the effects of technology on mental health, among others.

The District's Instructional Technology team has also created a resource page to help parents and guardians reinforce digital citizenship lessons at home. You can explore those resources here.
