Community Gathers for 3rd Annual Sean Hughes Memorial Run

More than 400 community members recently gathered at Lower Merion High School’s Arnold Field for the 3rd Annual Sean Hughes Memorial 5K & Fun Run, an event held in loving memory of former Aces principal Dr. Sean A. Hughes. The annual run celebrates Dr. Hughes’ legacy of leadership, service, compassion and character, while raising funds to create a memorial in his honor on the LMHS campus.

Participants completed either the 5K course or the one-mile walk, starting on the track at Arnold Field and winding through the surrounding neighborhood, before returning to the stadium for a strong finish. LMHS student volunteers played an essential role throughout the morning—welcoming runners, assisting with registration, guiding participants along the route and handing out refreshments and awards at the finish.

Lower Merion High School alumna Kylie Kelce was also on hand to welcome runners and officially start the race. In addition to her participation in the event, she has made a generous financial contribution toward the memorial project honoring Dr. Hughes.

With the running and walking complete, attendees gathered on the hillside between Lower Merion High School and the District Administration Office—the future site of the Sean A. Hughes Memorial Garden—where Dr. Hughes’ wife, Kristi, joined by her children, shared heartfelt remarks prior to the awards ceremony, thanking the community for their continued support and honoring the memory of her late husband.
