All LMSD Schools Now Designated "Heart Safe"

Thanks to a coordinated effort among staff at all 11 LMSD schools and the Student Health Services team, each school in our District is now designated as a "Heart Safe School" by Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Youth Heart Watch Program

The Heart Watch Program, part of "Project Adam," works with schools to establish an emergency plan that can be implemented in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Staff members at each school volunteered to serve on Medical Emergency Response Teams (MERT), and then received training on how to use AEDs,  administer other necessary aid and response practices.

The "Heart Safe" designation is good for three years, as long as the schools maintain their AEDs and MERT teams, update their emergency plans as warranted and ensure that the entire school staff receives training on how to recognize a sudden cardiac arrest. The teams will conduct annual drills.

You can click through the slide show below to watch the MERT team training and see each school's official recognition banner. Thanks to all the LMSD staff who are working to protect the health and safety of students and of their co-workers.
