Lower Merion High School recently welcomed best-selling author Amy Sarig (A.S.) King, who delivered a distinctive and empowering presentation titled “How to Write a Good Life: An Exploration of Your Personal Suitcase.” During her talk, King encouraged students and staff to reflect on their past experiences, showing them how to use those experiences positively to shape their futures and learn from mistakes, rather than be defined by them.
King is the author of highly acclaimed novels, including 2021's SW/TCH, the 2020 Michael L. Printz Award winner and LA Times Book Prize finalist DIG, 2016's Still Life with Tornado, and 2015’s surrealist novel I Crawl Through It. In 2022, King received the Margaret A. Edwards Award for her significant and lasting contributions to young adult literature. She is a faculty member in the Writing for Children and Young Adults MFA program at Vermont College of Fine Arts and spends much of the year traveling the country, speaking to high school and university students, educators, and advocates for youth mental health. After a decade of living self-sufficiently and teaching adult literacy in Ireland, she now resides in Pennsylvania.
