4th Graders are Champs at Annual Junior Olympics

More than 600 fourth-grade students, representing all six Lower Merion elementary schools, gathered on Lower Merion High School's Arnold Field on May 14, 2026, for the annual Junior Olympics competition. 

The clouds and rain cleared out just in time for these soon-to-be middle schoolers to demonstrate their athletic prowess and good sportsmanship in competitions including long jump, broad jump, tug-of-war, softball toss and dashes. 

When the students weren't competing themselves, they cheered on their classmates, and were able to socialize with students from the other schools, who could be their classmates next year at Bala Cynwyd, Black Rock or Welsh Valley middle schools. 

An enthusiastic crowd of parents, guardians and other family members were also on hand to cheer and take photos of their favorite athletes. 

Special thanks to the Physical Education teachers and other staff members, who organized this big event and kept it running smoothly.
