Respectful Owls Shop at Owlbert's Emporium

For nearly two months, Cynwyd Elementary students have been rewarded with "Cynwyd Cash" whenever they follow the school standards of "Be Safe... Be Respectful... Be Responsible... Be Kind."

As you can imagine, the Outstanding Owls who follow this code have been raking in the colorful currency, as part of the school's PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) implementation.

This week, students were able to reap the rewards of their positivity at this year's opening of the always-popular "Owlbert's Emporium." Named after Cynwyd's beloved mascot, this unique shopping establishment accepts only Cynwyd Cash for sought-after items including pencils, stickers, little stuffed animals, mini footballs and more.

The emporium is staffed by parent/guardian volunteers and, at times, student volunteers from Bala Cynwyd Middle School.

Students can choose to spend all of their Cynwyd Cash shopping or they can choose to save some of it to put toward big-ticket items, such as a class pizza party or a chance to throw a pie at the principal.

For a look at some kindergartners' adorable first visit to Owlbert's click through the slide show below. You'll see them waiting patiently to shop and counting cash -- important skills for our youngest learners!
