Cynwyd Kicks Off PBIS with a Fall Pep Rally

Cynwyd Elementary students and staff enjoyed a fun-filled assembly to kick of this year's PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports) initiative. Students were assigned to one of four "teams." Each team includes classes from kindergarten through fourth grade. 

Each team is designated by a color and will have a box of that color in the atrium. 

When staff see students demonstrating the school's "Four B" expectations -- Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Kind -- staff will give students "Owl Stars" that the students can put in their team's color-coded box. 

During the pep rally, staff reviewed some of the times and places where students can practice the Four B expectations, including during arrival and dismissal, on the bus and in the cafeteria, in the halls and restrooms. 

Each month, the team with the most Owl Stars will earn a special treat or experience for all the classes that make up that team.

To start to build team spirit, students competed in fun games including a bean-bag toss, a race to cover another student with Post-It notes and another to see how quickly a student could run while holding a ping-pong ball on a spoon in their mouth. 

Even staff joined in the competitive spirit of the day, with a contest to see who could eat two treats off a plate the fastest, without using their hands. Judging from the students' cheers, that competition was their favorite.
