Royals Earn Latin Laurels at Philadelphia Classical Society Competition

Fifty-one students from Black Rock Middle School were recently honored for their exemplary efforts in The Philadelphia Classical Society’s (PCS) 87th Annual Latin Week Competition. This yearly contest provides young Latin learners with opportunities to celebrate the subject through competitive examinations and the submission of artistic and literary projects across a variety of categories, including pencil and ink drawing, watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, computer drawing, sculpture, pottery, mosaics, and needlework, among others.

The highlight of the night for the Royals was the four Best of Show awards earned by Black Rock students, led by sixth-grade student Thomas Pucci, whose Minerva’s Aegis—a gold-toned circular shield—was selected as the Best of Best of Show in the Middle School category.

Also earning Best of Show honors were sixth-grader Sean McKeeman for his Minecraft Labyrinth, seventh-grader Bridget Ward for her Crocheted Phoenix and eighth-grader Rusudan Dokhnadze for his Pomegranate Drawing. Congratulations to all of Black Rock's honorees!

Founded in 1923, The Philadelphia Classical Society was established to encourage the study of Latin and Greek languages, a mission that continues to resonate more than a century later.
