Black Rock Middle School students and staff didn't let the rain cancellation of the Montgomery County Special Olympics dampen the excitement they feel for their team.
In lieu of the countywide event, the school held its own Special Olympics parade and competition to celebrate the athletes and all of their hard work.
On Thursday morning, June 5, 2025, the BRMS Special Olympians paraded through the school halls cheered on by their classmates and teachers. They then headed out to the track and field to compete in events including running, throwing, jumping and kickball.
The athletes' classmates made signs encouraging the competitors to try their very best in all the events.
Of course, no Olympic competition would be complete without a medal ceremony during which each athlete was recognized, received a medal and had time to bask in the adulation of their fans.
Congratulations to all of the BRMS Special Olympians, who demonstrated great spirit and sportsmanship! Supporting Special Olympics is an example of #LMSDBuildingBelonging
