Wednesday, April 19, 2023, was a day to celebrate Appreciation, Acceptance and Inclusion at Belmont Hills Elementary School. To mark the occasion, staff members wore special shirts that showed their dedication to these ideas.
Inclusion is one of the foundational blocks of #LMSDBuildingBelonging, along with Diversity and Equity. Staff shared the importance of these concepts with creative activities throughout the day.
To start the day, students and staff met with their School Families and discussed the book The Judgmental Flower, which shares a message that even though each individual learns differently and grows differently, when everyone comes together, they can create a beautiful garden.
To conclude the day, each class built its own flower, writing on the petals ways they will work to include their peers. The flowers will be hung in the school hallway, so everyone who visits the school can enjoy and appreciate the garden that's the result of joining many different flowers together.
