Dr. Ranelli to Recommend Ms. Koo as Next BCMS Principal

Superintendent Dr. Frank Ranelli shared the letter below with the Bala Cynwyd Middle School community, announcing his recommendation that Eugenia Koo become the next principal of BCMS.

Dear BCMS Community,

I am pleased to share that at the June 16, 2025, meeting of the Lower Merion Board of School Directors, I will be recommending the appointment of Eugenia Koo as the new principal of Bala Cynwyd Middle School.

Ms. Koo has served BCMS as assistant principal for the past two years. Her familiarity with the school culture, students and staff, as well as her experience as a principal at Franklin Towne Charter Elementary School and assistant principal at Franklin Towne Charter High School, make her an ideal candidate for this new role.

Upon learning that she is being recommended as principal, Ms. Koo said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to become the principal at Bala Cynwyd Middle School and contribute to the longstanding success within Lower Merion School District. Through collaborative relationships with the talented staff and devoted families in our community, I am excited about the opportunities I will have in this new role. I remain committed to providing students an enjoyable educational experience filled with achievement and development, through which they will Enter to Learn and Go Forth to Serve.”

Ms. Koo holds multiple degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, including a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science and master’s degrees in both secondary education and chemistry. She also completed Penn’s Educational Leadership Program for Aspiring Principals. She began her career as a chemistry teacher at Franklin Towne Charter and Sun Valley high schools.

Upon Board approval, Ms. Koo would start in her new position at BCMS on July 1, 2025. I look forward to working with her as we identify highly qualified candidates who will become the school’s new assistant principals.

Sincerely,

Dr. Frank Ranelli
Superintendent
