BC Constitution Club Presents their Case in Court

BC Constitution Club Presents their Case in Court

Members of the Bala Cynwyd Middle School Constitution Club were invited to the ceremonial courtroom of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to present an essay they composed to answer the question, "Does the United States Constitution address the grievances in the Declaration of Independence?"

The students were selected for this honor as finalists in the Courts, Community, and Rule of Law Committee of the Judicial Council of the Third Circuit's annual essay contest.

Circuit Judge D. Brooks Smith, who chairs the committee overseeing the contest, said, “Our hope is that the topic for this year will inspire our young citizens to learn what ‘independence’ meant to America’s Revolutionary generation. It is only by gaining an understanding of both how and why American colonists sought independence from a king can we come to know how precious the gift of freedom truly is.”

The 28 fifth- and sixth-grade students in the club worked with advisor Ms. Ann Friedlander on their essay. Three students were selected to read the essay aloud in front of a panel of judges.
