March 2002

Thank You
Thank you to Karen Pressel and Pam Brownstein for helping in the computer room weekly. Their commitment has just ended and now we will be having different computer room helpers.
Thank you to Kathy Soloff for chaperoning our Pen Pal trip. The children enjoyed meeting their pen pals. We will host their visit to our school in early June.

5. Word Endings – ing, d, ed
6. Short and Long vowels
7. Multiple Meaning Words

Science and Social Science

We have just completed the moon unit in Science and the Kenya unit in Social Science. The children have enjoyed these topics. We will share some of our work with you at conference time. Thank you for your time and patience with the moon log. It was a big success!

In Social Science we will begin our unit on Japan in April. We will focus on the Japanese culture, language, and traditions.
In Science, the children will begin a water unit and then learn about fish. We will have pond fish starting in April. We will learn about animal environments and see the life cycle. This is a fun and exciting unit!

Math

We have begun learning about place value and have had a short review of numbers to 100. Please continue to practice counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's. We will also begin to study money. You can help your child prepare for our money unit by having them practice counting change. We will focus on pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
