What Happened to the Dinosaurs / Extinction

Many scientists think the dinosaurs disappeared because a large asteroid hit the earth about 65 million years ago. It caused a lot of dirt and dust to be thrown up into the atmosphere. The thick dust cloud blocked the sunlight for months and possibly even for several years. This made it very cold and also killed many plants and animals that the dinosaurs needed for food.

Even before this happened, there were volcanoes erupting in some parts of the world and there had already been changes in the climate that had probably made it harder for the dinosaurs to live even before the asteroid.
