A Message From The Principal
Merion School is one of six elementary schools in the Lower Merion School district. Currently we have an enrollment of 455 students in grades kindergarten through five. The academic program is supported by a professional and support staff that includes 22 classroom teachers. Additional staff in the areas of special education, gifted support, art, music, library and physical education supports the total education program. A full time counselor and two literacy specialists are also on staff as a resource for children, staff and parents.

Our school is in the final phase of a two year renovation project that included the addition of a new gymnasium, library and computer lab. All classrooms have been renovated and the grounds are being updated to provide more play space for the children.

Additionally, students in grades two through five participate in weekly Spanish instruction with one of two FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools) teachers. Technology is infused into all aspects of the curriculum and the students enjoy the opportunities to participate in videoconferencing, researching on the internet and learning keyboarding skills.

Extracurricular activities are available to students in grades four and five. Musical groups and after- school sports meet before and after school respectively. These programs are very popular with the students and provide an opportunity to socialize and work cooperatively in setting outside the regular classroom.

The Merion Home and School Association is an active group of parents who meet monthly to discuss items of concern to the greater school community. Our parents work collaboratively with the staff in order to provide cultural and enriching experiences for the entire student body.

The combination of an enthusiastic group of children, a dedicated staff and a supportive parent group all help to make our school a caring and supportive place in which to learn. Children are respected as individuals and taught not only to recognize their own personal talents, but also to appreciate the strengths and differences of others.
