Reminder to Parents of BCMS 8th Graders attending LMHS

By now you should have received your orange LMHS School Directory (Buzz Book) form in the mail. Please return the form ASAP. LMHS needs to have a signed form on file even if the information you received is correct. Please contact Lynn Thames (lynn@lynnthames.com) or Eileen Harris (eileenharris@comcast.net) if you have any questions.

We cannot print your child's information in the directory without a signed form on file. This form is good until your child graduates. You only have to do this once!

If you have older siblings at LMHS, please check your old information for accuracy. Current LMHS student entries will remain the same unless we hear otherwise.

Performer to Brings Young Teens and
Their Parents Together
May 20, 7-9 PM at Penn Valley

"Why don't they hear us?" It's a question teens ask about their parents, as much as parents ask it about their teens. And on May 20, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, that - and many other important questions - will be addressed in a fun yet provocative way by Michael Fowlin, who brings his exciting one-man interactive show to the Penn Valley Elementary School auditorium.

Sponsored by the Lower Merion Narberth Community Coalition, the interactive performance promises to live up to Michael Fowlin's long history of reviews that describe him being enjoyable, funny, spellbinding and someone who knows how people want to be treated.

This free event is for 5th- 9th graders and their families. For more information contact the Lower Merion Narberth Community Coalition at 610 527-8731 or info@lmncc.org.

LMHS Groundbreaking May 23

Please mark your calendars to attend the Friday, May 23, 2008 Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Lower Merion High School (see the attached invitation). Please feel free to share this invitation with those you feel would be interested in attending the Groundbreaking.

The ceremony will begin at 10 AM on Arnold Field and will feature remarks by school and project officials, performances by LMHS students and the presentation of a time capsule. The project is the culmination of nearly a decade of community conversations and has been driven by the recommendations of a community advisory committee. The new school is expected to open for the 2010-11 school year and will be located behind the existing facility.

The new LMHS boasts a high performance, environmentally-sensitive design. "Green" features will include the use of recycled stormwater, enhanced energy performance and daylight harvesting. Facilities highlights include one gymnasium, an 850-seat theatre, lecture room with tiered seating, library/multi-media center and fully-integrated technology.

Sitework has already begun on campus. The operations building and bus garage (located behind Pennypacker Field) have been demolished and a temporary staff parking lot has been completed adjacent to the football stadium on Arnold Field. Buses have been moved off-site to various locations in Lower Merion Township. Once the new school is complete, students will vacate the old building and move into the new facility. The old building will then be demolished and the parking lot on Arnold Field will be converted back to fields. The only existing structure that will remain on campus is the "A" building which houses administrative offices, classrooms and the Down's Gym.

If you have any questions regarding the groundbreaking ceremony, high school construction and/or to get involved in supporting the new facility, please email capitalcomments@lmsd.org
