School libraries are an integral part of the instructional program and are essential to carrying out the mission
of the Lower Merion School District.
The Library Literacy program:
- Provides our school community with the best possible information resources and services
- Supports student achievement of curricular goals and objectives
- Provides both intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats
- Promotes active learning by assisting students to access, evaluate, and utilize information
- Provides teachers with expertise and tools to implement the information problem-solving approach across all disciplines
- Promotes academic excellence and instills academic integrity
- Supports a collaborative approach to teaching information literacy skills
- Responds to dynamic information needs of school community and evolving information technologies
- Promotes reading as a lifetime habit of mind and pursuit of interests.
