The Lower Merion School District Transportation Department provides bus services for both the District and local private schools. Each day during the school year, LMSD buses transport more than 9,000 students to 136 school locations in the Delaware Valley.
The District's fleet of 120 vehicles includes 65 buses fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG), the largest fleet of alternative fuel school buses on the East Coast. The District has been honored by the U.S. Department of Energy as "Pennsylvania's primary success story for alternative fuels," and is the only District to serve on the Board of the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Group.
The District also tries to minimize its environmental impact by using bio-diesel in its diesel fueled vehicles.
LMSD buses are monitored by a Global Positioning System (GPS) to help ensure an efficient, safe and secure transportation system. Our GPS equipped buses enable the District to track the location, direction and speed of our vehicles. The majority of buses are also equipped with security cameras with video and audio capability, which help to deter misconduct on buses and can provide critical information in situations when disciplinary action may be considered.
Our overriding goal is to transport our students safely to and from school every day.
