LM Page presents: "Is your Gifted Child an Underachiever (and Would You Know the Signs?" with Dr. Gail Post

This event is scheduled for Thursday, November 9 from 700-8:30 p.m. in the LMSD Administration Building (located at 301 E. Montgomery Avenue in Ardmore) in Room 264.

Gail Post, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist in Jenkintown, PA, and has been in practice for over 30 years. She works with adolescents and adults, with a specialty in the areas of intellectual and musical giftedness. She also previously served as co-chair of a local PAGE affiliate group. Dr. Post writes articles about parenting and a blog about gifted children and adults: www.giftedchallenges.com. You can find out more at www.GailPost.com, and follow her at facebook.com/GiftedChallenges/ and twitter.com/giftedchlnges.

There is a pervasive myth that gifted children are high achievers; yet many are not. A widely overlooked and unrecognized subset of gifted students are underachievers, who ultimately fail to reach their potential. They often struggle with boredom, inertia and frustration in school, mask their abilities so they can fit in with peers, and have lost their intrinsic love of learning. Dr. Post will explore some of the causes of underachievement among the gifted, its effects on their academic and social/emotional well-being, and some recommendations for intervention and prevention.

This event is free and open to all LMSD parents, teachers and administrators.
