Eighth grade students at Bala Cynwyd Middle School recently got creative in support of The Empty Bowl Project – an international grassroots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger.
Students used the "slab and drape" method as they handcrafted ceramic bowls which were then stylized with leaf motifs before being bisque-fired and glazed. The beautiful bowls will now be donated to the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network's (PIHN) Empty Bowl Dinner.
Last year's dinner raised more than $40,000 for soup kitchens and after-school tutoring program snacks in the Great Philadelphia area. This year's Empty Bowl Dinner will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at the United Lutheran Seminary in Northwest Philadelphia. To learn more about this program and how you can help, click here.
