LMHS ninth grader Claire Sun's play to be featured in Philadelphia Young Playwrights' "New Voices" program
LMHS ninth grader Claire Sun's play to be featured in Philadelphia Young Playwrights' "New Voices" program

A one-act play written by Claire Sun, a ninth grade student at Lower Merion High School, is set to premiere as part of the Philadelphia Young Playwrights' (PYP) New Voices production this week. Claire penned Love is a Cliché—in a Café while she was an eighth grade student at Bala Cynwyd Middle School and taking part in the playwriting program co-taught by Dr. Rachel Nichols and Phoebe Schaub, a PYP Teaching Artist.

Sun was inspired to write this play by social situations and every scene is a different story with the common underlying theme of feminism. Her one-act play was one of only seven pieces selected by the PYP Young Playwrights' Reading Committee from more than 750 entries from throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. Claire has also been involved in staging her play, which will run now through the end of October in a series of performances acted by Temple University students. The public performance schedule can be found on the flyer below. For more information about this program, click here.
