The Harriton Theater Company (HTC) recently received five nominations in the 12th Annual Greater Philadelphia Cappies Awards – an international program for recognizing, celebrating and providing learning experiences for high school theater and journalism students.
After receiving training in theater criticism and review writing, participating Cappies' students attend plays and musicals at other high schools in their area and write reviews of the performances. Volunteer teacher-mentors lead discussions and select the critic-written reviews that are later published by area newspapers with student bylines. At the end of the year, the Cappies student-critics decide who among their peer performers and technicians should be recognized for awards at the annual Gala.
The HTC was nominated for Best Critics Team, Best 11th Grade Critic, Best Song (Model Behavior, sung by Nina Gold), Best Publicity and Marketing, and Best Comedic Actress in a Musical. Gold, a sophomore, ultimately took home the honor of Best Comedic Actress for her performance in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
